 Tour Eve: Tuesday, 4th May 2021

Arriving in Broome on the eve of the tour departure (4th May), we relaxed in the afternoon, enjoyed the warmth of the day, and watched a richly textured sunset.

We were amazed at the large number of people who gathered on the beach, on the nearby cliffside parks, and at various venues behind the beach, to watch the sun setting.



Acknowledgement

Before we start our tour, it is important to acknowledge the more than 30 tribal groupings that are the traditional custodians of this land - the Kimberley region. We acknowledge the strength of their continuing culture, and offer respects to Elders past and present.

Day One: Wednesday, 5th May 2021 Having gathered at the Sunset Bar & Grill on the previous evening to meet our fellow travellers, twenty of us (plus guide/driver Ray) rose early, breakfasted, and left Cable Beach Club Spa & Resort aboard our APT twenty-two seater, four-wheel-drive bus, at 7:00 am.  Day Two: Thursday, 6th May 2021 The group departed Fitzroy Crossing at 8:24 am, with a long day of driving ahead. After a brief pause to collect the day's lunch from the Ngiyali Roadhouse, during which I took my first flower photo, and also my first bird photo, we continued on the Great Northern Highway in a south-easterly direction.  As yet unidentified White-breasted Woodsparrow ( Artamis leucorynchus ) This is a small passerine bird (feet adapted to perch) which breeds in an area from the Indonesian Andamon Islands to Northern Australia. The term "woodswallow" is something of a misnomer, because it isn't closely related to true swallows, but belongs to the family Artamidae, which includes Butcherbirds, Currawongs, and the Australian Magpie. At about 10:25 am, we paused at Ngumban Cliff Lookout Rest Area to take in the expansive views, to the north-east, of the Meuller Ranges. The Day After: Tuesday, 18th May 2021

It was quite strange being able to greet the day peacefully - though some of the group were off on other adventures - and to enjoy a leisurely breakfast! However, it wasn't long before we had packed the luggage, and arranged our afternoon transfer to the airport. Then we wandered several kilometres northwards along Cable Beach, turned, and meandered back, allowing ourselves to be distracted by whatever caught our attention. View to the south on Cable Beach A Hibiscus (I think) View to the north on Cable Beach Rocks sanded down over time! Art in the rocks! And, a trail on a rock! Nature's patterns! Crab Art??
